Tough Non-Conference Match-up leads to Loss for Beaver
Altoona, PA - Tonight in a tough non-conference match-up against Division III Penn State Altoona, the Women's Basketball team was sent home with a loss for the 4th time this season. This season has proven to be a difficult start with one of the toughest non-conference match-ups to date with PSUAC play to begin this week.
Beaver started off the first quarter scoring the first two buckets of the game. This gave the Lions some good momentum, and the quarter remained close. By the end of the first ten minutes Beaver was only down 17-18.
The second quarter went much like the first. Beaver was down by five at the most before reaching the half way mark. This all changed after a layup from fourth year Kyra Seggewiss brought the lions within three points. Then it was first year Emery Black that tied the game with a three pointer. Altoona followed this was a jump shot to go back up by two, but first year Taylor Woodruff would go on to make a jump shot of her own to tie the game once again. The game would continue on for about three minutes with neither team scoring a basket. This changed when fourth year Caitlyn O'Hara scored a layup with just under two minutes remaining in the half. Beaver would then go on to score five points to gain a 35-30 lead over Altoona. Altoona was able to come back to close Beaver's lead down to one point. The half ended with Beaver up 35-34.
The third quarter was not great for Beaver. At first it started off good for the Lions, they lost their lead to Altoona but stayed within reach. Then Altoona turned up their pressure, and Beaver was down by nine points. This was Altoona's largest lead so far into the game, and it would only grow larger. For another three minutes, neither team scored. This was until Altoona made a jump shot to gain a 11 point lead with just over three minutes remaining. Beaver made an attempt to come back, but it was not enough and by the end of the quarter the score was 46-60 in Altoona's favor.
The fourth quarter was a roller coast of events. Altoona's lead grew to 16 points in less than a minute. Beaver did not give up, and began chipping away at Altoona's. With just over four and a half minutes left, Beaver was only down by three points. Despite their efforst, the Lions ended up losing 63-76.
Fourth year Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds. First year Emery Black (New Braunfels, TX) claimed player of the game finishing with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 blocks.
