Beaver wins over Greater Allegheny, 84-76.
Greater Allegheny, PA -- Beaver, going into rival territory, wins on the road to advance to the PSUAC Championship.
After splitting in the regular season, each winning on their home court, Beaver and Greater Allegheny met again in the post-season at Greater Allegheny. Beaver never took the lead in the first half, but was always within striking distance as they went into halftime down just 3, 39-36.
The opening minutes looked to mimic the first half, until Khalia Adams (Washington, D.C./Phelps) hit a critical jump shot to give Beaver their first lead of the afternoon at 14:30 (46-45). Greater Allegheny's Christina Floyd quickly answered with a three to regain the lead. Both teams continued to battle and again Adams made a critical shot to tie the game at 54, and again Floyd answered with a three to regain the Greater Allegheny lead. Finally, with just over 4 minutes to play, Beaver tied the game at 71 and then refused to lose as they held Greater Allegheny to just 5 points and won by a final score of 84-76.
Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Adams with 25, but contributing both in scoring and rebounds was Cassandra Flowers (Pittsburgh, PA/Westinghouse) who put up 16 points but pulled down 23 rebounds.
The win advances the Lady Lions to the PSUAC Championship where they will play Penn State Brandywine at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, PA on Tuesday night.
