Lady Lions Lose Two In Extra Innings

The Lady Lions hosted the Thiel Tomcats on Saturday, for a non-conference double header. In game one, the Tomcats jumped ahead of the Lion's scoring first in the top of the 3rd. Going scoreless in the 4th and the 5th, the Lady Lions brought in a run in the bottom of the sixth when junior Alonna Verrico (Rochester/Rochester, PA) brought in senior Melissa Swoager (South Side/South Side, PA).
The Lady Lions held the Tom Cats in the seventh and headed into extra innings. Both teams remained scoreless in the eighth inning and headed into the ninth inning. The Tomcats scored two in the top of the ninth and looked to have the game in the bag. However in the bottom of the ninth Beaver rallied on two outs to score two runs as well. In the tenth inning, both teams scored a single run to keep the game alive. Finally after eleven innings, the Tomcats came up to bat with big sticks, powering in 3 runs. With their last up to bat, Beaver looked to answer Thiel again, but came up short scoring only one run. After eleven innings of play, Beaver fell short 7-5. Sophomore Kayla Chambers pitched a spectacular game, pitching 11 innings, giving up one earned run, striking out five and walking one.
In game two, the Thiel Tomcats jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the first. Remaining scoreless in the 2nd and 3rd, the Tomcats scored again in the top of the 4th placing them ahead of Beaver 4-0. With a scoreless fifth inning, the Tomcats struck once again scoring a run in the top of the sixth. Finally, in the bottom of the sixth Beaver scored a run when Swoager was driven in from a single by Verrico.
Holding the Tomcats to no runs in the top of the seventh, Beaver rallied against Thiel, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh. For the 2nd time today both teams headed into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, the Tomcats scored two runs placing them ahead 7-5. In the bottom of the eighth Beaver looked to rally one more time, but fell short scoring only one run. The Lady Lions would lose by a final of 7-6.
Beaver will play their final games of the weekend, tomorrow, March 22nd when they host the Pioneers of Point Park. Game time is set to begin at 2p.m.
