Shenango Volleyball to host First-Annual Pink Out Game

SHARON, Pa. – Penn State Shenango women's volleyball team will host its first pink out match at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 against Penn State Beaver at F.H. Buhl Club.

Throughout the day and during the match donations will be accepted for the Side-Out Foundation. All proceeds, including ticket sales and concessions, will go directly to the Side-Out Foundation. Shenango's goal is to raise $2,000, which will provide individualized treatment to one patient diagnosed with advanced stages of breast cancer.

Fans can donate before, during, or after the match in person via cash or check in the Athletics Office, Sharon Hall 210, or at the door. Donations are also being accepted online on the Side-Out website.

The Side-Out Foundation began in 2006. The foundation employs scientists and researchers to manage the science behind the disease. Although awareness and fundraising are a major part of the foundation, the research behind metastatic breast cancer is the other piece of the puzzle.

Along with donations, Shenango Volleyball friends and family will also be selling "Fight like a Lion" t-shirts for $8, as well as running a 50/50 raffle with proceeds going directly to the Side-Out Foundation. At the door, patrons can dedicate pink paper ribbons for $1 and place the ribbon on Buhl Club's wall.

The team will honor breast cancer survivors and those currently battling the disease in attendance by welcoming them onto the court, announcing their names, and providing them with a pink carnation, donated by Cottage Garden Designs.

Any survivors or fighters that plan to attend the match are asked to contact Athletic Director Amanda Howett by email axh5934@psu.edu or phone 724-983-2968 before the match to attend for free.
