Big Win Against Penn State Hazelton
Monaca, PA - Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball Team was back in conference play tonight taking on Penn State Hazleton.
Looking back at the last time the Women's Basketball team played Hazelton, Beaver suffered a big loss. Tonight, Beaver was looking to take a big win against Hazelton.
In the first quarter of the game, Beaver was off to a rough start. Although they kept their turnovers down, they had a hard time getting the ball into the hoop. Hazleton was able to keep the game close playing off of Beaver's mistakes on defense and second chance points from rebounds. At the end of the first, Beaver scored 15 points and allowed Hazleton to score 13. The second quarter continued much like the first. With Beaver's lack of communication and not being able to rebound on the defensive end, Hazelton was able to keep the game close and tie Beaver at the end of the half. Hazleton scored 15 points while Beaver only scored 13. The end of the half sat 28-28.
Going into the third quarter, Beaver stepped up. Cleaning up their defense and being able to get defensive rebounds helped them immensely. Beaver allowed Hazleton just 8 points and put up 17 points to close the third quarter. Beaver went into the fourth quarter with a 9 point lead and was ready to close the game. Beaver continued to play great defense and kept scoring on the offensive end. In the remaining ten minutes, Beaver only allowed Hazleton to score 5 points and dropped 21 points to close the game with a win. Beaver sent Hazelton home with a loss of 41-66.
Sophomore Kiera Baker (Houston, TX) continues to dominate for Beaver having 18 points this game. Freshman Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) also put up big numbers for Beaver finishing with 14 points, 2 steals, 2 assists, and 4 rebounds. Junior Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) played big for Beaver tonight finishing with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal.
