Beaver takes home win over Shenango 64-63
Beaver beats out Shenango in away conference match
Shenango, PA - The Lady Lions took the a road trip to play against Penn State Shenango in a conference matchup tonight. Starting the game off, Beaver went down by 9 points early. The Lady Lions could not seem to find a rhythm, losing the quarter 12-19. The second quarter seemed to be more of the same struggle as Beaver continued to trail Shenango. The scoring going into the half was 28-36, Beaver losing by 8. Coming out of halftime, Beaver finally turned on the fire. With less than 3 minutes left in the quarter, the Lady Lions tied up the game 49-49 with a layup from Senior Mikayla Womer to finally shift the energy in the favor of Beaver. Within moments, Beaver took the lead for the first time in the game, closing out the quarter 51-50.
A game that could go in either direction, continued to stay close throughout the fourth quarter. Beaver took their largest lead of the night of 5 points, leading 59-54 with under 5 minutes left in the quarter. The game began to come down to the wire as Shenango quickly caught up, tying the game 59-59 with 3 minutes left. A back and forth battle of defense took the to 61-61 with 40 seconds left on the clock. Beaver called for a much needed timeout to regain control of the pace of play. Resuming the game, freshman Kyra Seggewiss made a clutch layup, giving the Lady Lions a 63-61 lead. With time not on their side, Beaver picked up a foul sending Shenango to the line to make 2 free throws with less than 15 seconds left in the game, the score now 63-63. Beaver calls for another time out to try and shake off the nerves. Back in the action, the Lady Lions pushed the ball into the paint for Senior Mikayla Womer to get fouled. Mikayla made the first free throw but missed the second, putting Beaver up by only 1 with less than 5 seconds in the game, with Shenango gaining the rebound and getting a timeout with little to no time left on the clock. Shenango went for the long haul to attempt to win the game, but came up short missing the layup, allowing Beaver to win 64-63.
Sophomore Arbri Gillis has 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. Freshman Kyra Seggewiss had 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Senior Mikayla Womer had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist.
