Myrtle Beach, SC -- Beaver Baseball splits with Ancilla College in morning double-header.
In game one of the day, Beaver started strong, scoring their first runs of the day on a 2-RBI single from freshman, Kyle Redding. Later in the inning both Christian James and Jacob Beck found their way across the plate, after reaching on error's by Ancilla.
With a confortable lead, Beaver kept the pressure on adding another run in the third, giving Redding his third RBI of the day. The Lions would allow Ancilla to score in the bottom of the inning, but would hold the 5-1 lead through the sixth inning.
The seventh inning was action packed as Beaver seemining added two security runs on a Justyn Fancona triple, but Ancilla made the game exciting scoring 3 runs with two outs to go and 2 more before Beaver was able to get the final out of the game to hang on to the win, 7-6.
Leading the offense was Francona going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's followed by Kyle Redding who was 1 for 3 with 3 RBI's. Pitching the complete game was Scott Hughes who faced all 32 batters, giving up just four hits.
In game two of the double-header, Beaver struggled, giving up a run to Ancilla in the second and four more in the third to fall behind 5-0 after three innings, managing only 3 hits in that same span. Ancilla tacked on 2 more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the 7-0 which would be the eventual final score after Beaver was limited to a single hit (double from Josh Beck) in the seventh.
Five Beaver players contributed hits in the second game, led by Stefan Romaniuk who went 2 for 4. On the mound was Noah Rinker who gave up 6 runs, taking the loss (5 innings pitched). He was relieved by Kyle Redding who threw 2 innings, facing the final 11 batters and strinking out one.
After the split, Beaver now sits at 2-4 on their young season and returns to action tomorrow evening as they face Henry Ford College at 6:15 p.m.
