Shenango Falls in Conference Semi-Finals

Penn State Shenango Women's Basketball fell just short in a hard-fought 69-66 loss to Penn State Beaver in the conference semifinal game, closing out their season with a 16-9 overall record and 13-4 in conference play. Despite the defeat, the Lions remain hopeful for a bid to the USCAA National Tournament, with the official announcement expected on Monday.

Shenango was led by a balanced offensive effort, with four players scoring in double figures. Alli Lewis delivered a strong performance with 16 points on 8-for-14 shooting while also grabbing 9 rebounds. Shar'Da Williamson added 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, providing leadership on both ends of the floor despite facing heavy defensive pressure. Jaysina Sellers contributed 12 points, including a key three-pointer in the third quarter, while Hailee Aguinaga recorded an impressive double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, along with a game-high 5 steals.

Offensively, the Lions shot 39.5% (30-for-76) from the field but struggled from three-point range, making just 1 of 13 attempts (7.7%). Free throw shooting also proved to be a challenge, as Shenango converted only 5 of 14 attempts (35.7%), missing several crucial opportunities down the stretch. Despite these shooting woes, the Lions remained aggressive on the glass, matching Beaver with 35 rebounds, including 14 on the offensive end. Their defensive intensity was on display as they forced 19 turnovers and recorded 10 steals.

Gabrielle King provided valuable scoring off the bench with 8 points on efficient 4-for-6 shooting, while Oyin Adio led the second unit defensively with 2 steals. The Lions' bench contributed 12 points overall, giving them depth throughout the contest.

Although Shenango led at halftime 37-31, a cold third quarter where they shot just 26.3% (5-for-19) allowed Beaver to rally. Despite a back-and-forth fourth quarter, Shenango could not overcome Beaver's hot shooting (63.6% in the final period) and clutch free throws in the closing minutes.

While their conference championship hopes were cut short, the Lions can take pride in a strong season. They now turn their focus to the USCAA selection process, eagerly awaiting Monday's announcement for a potential postseason opportunity.
