Beaver Upends Brandywine 75-61

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine trailed by one at halftime before Penn State Beaver pulled away to claim a 75-61 victory over the Lions in Penn State University Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday.

Brandywine scored the game's first five points, but Beaver answered with a 13-3 run to grab a five-point advantage. The Lions rallied to knot the count at 13-all behind Arianna Henry's (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) first of three triples during the opening half; however, Beaver entered the second period with a 16-15 edge.

The visitors led for most of the second quarter, but a pair of Henry threes followed by Jenaya Smith's (Cohoes, N.Y./Cohoes) put-back equaled the score at 30-30. Alison Boykin's jumper put Beaver back on top before Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) brought the Lions within one a the break by sinking a free throw with 13 seconds to play.

Beaver began to pull away late in the third period, extending its lead to double figures for the first time at the 3:03 mark. Henry's three brought the Lions within seven, but the visitors pushed their lead back to 10 by the end of the quarter.

Brandywine was limited to 4-of-18 shooting during the final quarter as Beaver put the game away.

Henry knocked down five triples in 12 minutes of action and led the Lions in scoring with 15 points, while Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) produced an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double. Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) added 13 points, six assists and five rebounds and Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) contributed 11 points. 

Brandywine connected on eight three-pointers, but was limited to 32 percent shooting and was undone by 28 turnovers.

Brandywine (5-5, 4-3 PSUAC) opens a five-game road trip next Saturday at Eastern University (1:00 PM).
