Soccer falls at Beaver; looks to finish strong

As the Penn State Fayette Men's and Women's Coed soccer team nears the conclusion of the program's inaugural season, the team knew coming into the campaign it would face teams that have been together for a while and play like a well-oiled machine.

Wednesday was one of those times as Fayette (1-6, 1-6) journeyed to Beaver County to face a talented Penn State Beaver (10-3, 6-1) team that is vying for a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference title.  Currently, Beaver sits tied for second with Penn State New Kensington (9-3, 6-1) and percentage points behind Penn State Lehigh Valley (7-3-1, 6-1-1) for first place.

Even though Fayette put up a hard fight, it lost 16-1. Beaver put 33 shots on goal while Fayette could only manage five, with Alec McLay (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands HS) netting Fayette's lone goal.  The senior, whom many in the know consider to be the key cog in getting the soccer team started, leads Fayette with three goals.

Fayette heads into the final week of its first season as three matches remain.  It heads to Penn State Mont Alto Friday (5-10, 2-5) for a 4 p.m. kickoff before heading home for the last two matches of the season.
