Penn State DuBois hosted PSU Beaver tonight in a PSUAC West Division double header. DuBois won the last matchup against Beaver in a single, 9-inning game.
Coach Calliari put the ball in Morgan Bell's hand for the game 1 start from the mound. Bell would make quick work of the first inning with a 3 up, 3 down start. The DuBois bats fed off of Bell's big start, as they would score 9 runs in the bottom of the first. Trevor Hanna would double, Talon Falls would smash a home run over the center field fence, and DuBois would total 7 hits in the inning.
Bell would keep the Beaver bats silent through 4 innings of work. Bell would get even more support in the bottom of the 4th to secure his win from the mound as DuBois would score another 7 to go up, 16-0. Bell would exit after 4, allowing 0 runs, 3 hits, and struck out 5 batters.
Freshman James Spengler would come in relief for Bell. Spengler would allow 3 runs off of 3 hits, before veteran lefty Blaise Roush would come in to finish off the final 2 outs for DuBois.
DuBois would end game one with 14 hits, and on top of Hanna's double and Falls home run, Dan Stauffer would hit 2 doubles of his own, and Cory Lehman would add a double as well.
Game two saw Jake Allen start from the mound for DuBois. Allen would start this game the same way Bell started game one, 3 up, 3 down. Toner Corl would also start the bottom of the 1st the same way from the plate as game one, drawing a lead-off walk. RBI's from Falls and Joey Dipietro would give DuBois the lead at the end of one, 2-0.
The bottom of the second found pinch runner, Thayne Morgan on base after Frankie Stefko drew another lead-off walk. Morgan would steal both second and third base before being drove in off of a double from Hanna.
DuBois would score 1 more run in the fourth when Brandon Sicheri would steal home. Beaver would score their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning.
Allen would finish 3 innings of scoreless work allowing only 1 hit. Braiden Blair would come in relief for 3 innings with 4 strikeouts, and allowing only 1 run. Stauffer would come in to close the game out as he forced a ground out, and struck out the final 2 batters. DuBois would win the game, 4-1.
Zane Morgan would hit a triple on his return from an injury, and Sicheri would also add 2 stolen bases to help DuBois sweep the double header. DuBois travels to Beaver on Saturday for another double header.
