Brandywine Edges Beaver 3-1 On Senior Day

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine claimed a key conference victory by defeating Penn State Beaver 3-1 as the Lions' men's soccer team celebrated its Senior Day Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine moved to 7-0-1, maintaining its hold on first place in the Penn State University Athletic Conference with two conference matches remaining, while Beaver dropped to 6-2.

The Lions struck early for the game's first goal as Axel Ayllon-Ortiz (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) drove a free kick to Joey Cairy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), who tapped the ball on to Raymond Kelly (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and Kelly deposited a score into the lower corner of the net.

Ethan Paxton answered during the 18th minute with Beaver's goal and the teams entered the half with the score tied at one.

Just 4:30 into the second half, Brandywine went on top for good. Cairy's corner kick found Ethan Pace (Stowe, Pa./Pottsgrove), who launched a long strike over Beaver keeper Adrian Garcia to make the count 2-1.

Ayllon-Ortiz capped the scoring with an insurance goal off Liam Pheiffer's (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) feed during the 85th minute to give the Lions their seventh conference win.

Brandywine outshot Beaver 17-4 and yielded just three shots on goal, while attempting 13 of the match's 14 corner kicks. Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) made two saves to up his record to 5-1-1 this fall.

Brandywine is back at home Tuesday for a 4:00 pm match against Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
