VB has strong showing at USCAA Tip Off

Monaca, PA - For the first time since winning the 2019 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national championship, the Penn State Fayette Volleyball team took the court on Saturday as it took part in the USCAA Tip Off at Penn State Beaver.

Fayette finished 2-1 on the day and head coach Sam Swetz spoke about the action.

"It was a good, hard weekend," she said. "It is hard playing three games back-to-back-to-back like that for the first day of the season, especially when half our team is young and are trying to (learn) the ropes of college ball.  But the weekend was great and I'm glad to see what the future holds for this season."

In the opener, Fayette downed Beaver, 3-1 (25-20, 18-20, 25-18, 25-16).

Kamden Miller (Midland, PA/Lincoln Park HS) had 18 digs, Kristina Aeschbacher (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) finished with 12 kills and Jadyn Barnish (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) tallied 13 assists.

In the middle match, Fayette was swept by Penn State Greater Allegheny, 3-0 (14-25, 19-25, 12-25).

Aeschbacher had seven kills, Miller recorded nine digs and Ali McGee (Carmichaels, PA/Carmichaels HS) finished with 10 assists.

In the finale of the day, Fayette swept Bay Path, 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-18).

Noelle Hunter (Fredricktown, PA/Beth-Center HS) had 10 kills and Carissa Cyphert (Scottdale, PA/Southmoreland HS) recorded seven digs.

Fayette hosts WVU Potomac State College Wednesday in its home opener.  Action starts at 7 p.m.
