Lady Lions take road loss to Carlow

PITTSBURGH, Pa.— In the first of two back-to-back road games scheduled this week, the Penn State Beaver women's volleyball team fell 3-1 against the Carlow University Celtics (6-2 overall) in Thursday night's USCAA match.
The Lady Lions took a 6-point loss in the first set (25-19) but were able to tie up the game with a tough 26-24 second set win. Beaver kept it close in the third set, but Carlow pulled away with a 25-21 win and went on to outscore Beaver 25-11 in the final set, taking a 3-1 loss for the night.
Senior Amanda Mike (Hopewell) led the offense with 10 kills, four block and three service aces, followed by freshman Mine' Okoloko (Boca Raton/NMH), who finished with seven kills and four digs.
Sophomore Kelsie Hallum (Hopewell) finished with 20 assists, 10 digs, one service aces and one block. On defense, sophomore Heaven Bowman (Houston/Dulles) finished with a season-high 58 digs and two service aces, followed freshman Ashley Rabang (El Dorado Hills /Oak Ridge) with 32 digs and one service ace, and sophomore Cheyenne Sherman (Wellsboro/Wellsboro Area), who also recorded double-digit digs with 28 of her own and three blocks.
After tonight's match, Beaver now stands at (6-4) overall for the regular season and 2-1 in the PSUAC conference standings.
The Lady Lions will return for some conference action Saturday, Sept. 21, where they will face PSUAC rival Penn State Greater Allegheny on the road. The game starts at 2 p.m.
