Beaver rolls past Shenango, 3-1

SHARON, Pa.— The Penn State Beaver women's volleyball team kept its winning streak alive by snagging a fifth straight win against PSUAC rival Penn State Shenango Saturday afternoon, 3-1.
The teams battled back and forth in the first set, put Beaver held on and pulled off a tight 25-23 set-win. The second set the teams replicated another close contest in set two, but Shenango had the upper hand over Beaver and took a 25-22 win to tie the game at 1-1. But the Lady Lions got hot in the final two sets, taking a 25-18 win in set three and sealing the deal with a 25-17 win in the fourth to claim a 3-1 victory against Shenango.
On offense, three Lady Lions scored double-digit kills today, starting with sophomore Maria Slater (Houston/Elsik), who earned 14 kills, followed by senior Amanda Mike (Hopewell) with 12 kills and sophomore Emily Keener (Utica) with 11 kills. Sophomore Ramiya White (Westland/Wayne Memorial) led the team in service aces, putting up four of her own. Freshman Ashley Rabang (El Dorado Hills /Oak Ridge) led in digs with six and also finished with three service aces. Senior Alexis Albrecht (Oakdale/Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter) was a force on defense, recording seven blocks in the game.
After today's match, Beaver improves to a (6-2) overall record and 2-0 in the PSUAC conference standings.
The Lady Lions will be back for more conference action at home tomorrow, Sept. 15, where they will face PSUAC rival Penn State Mont Alto at 2 p.m.
