Lady Lions capture two wins in PSUAC Crossover Weekend

Fayette, Pa. -- The Lady Lions traveled to Penn State Fayette on Saturday afternoon to play their first two matches in the PSUAC Crossover Weekend. Beaver faced off against conference rival Penn State York in the first match of the day, followed by another conference rival match against Penn State Hazleton. Beaver comes into the game fresh off a 3-2 win against Butler County Community College this past Thursday and now sit at an 8-6 overall season record.
Beaver took the first matchup against York by storm and scored 15 kills in the first set and went on to win the set, 25-15. The Lady Lions overwhelmed York offensively in the second set and won the loop-sided set, 25-7. Up two sets to zero going into the third, Beaver had the advantage the entire set and scored 11 kills. Beaver won the set 25-9, defeating York 3-0. Amanda Mike led the offense with 7 kills and 4 service aces. Emily Keener had a notable 22 assists, 5 service aces, and 2 digs. Alexis Albrecht led the defense with 6 digs and 2 service aces.
The second game on the day, Beaver had a tough time against Penn State Hazleton. The Lady Lions dominated Hazleton on both sides of the floor in the first set, scoring 10 kills and going on to win the set 25-11. Beaver decided to start reserve players in the second set and Hazleton fought back kept the game close for the entire set. The teams went back and forth but in the final minute of the set, Hazleton scored and took the set with a final score of 26-28 for Beaver. With both teams tied with a set, Beaver went back to its starting line up and dominated Hazleton 25-12. Then in the forth, Hazleton got hot but Beave kept the set within striking distance. However, Hazleton pulled away and took the set from Beaver (18-25). It was all or nothing in the fifth set. But Beaver flexed its offensive muscle early and won the final set 15-7, landing the ladies their second win of the day.
Amanda Mike led the offense with 11 kills and 4 service aces, and right behind her was Brooke Tomasko and Stephanie Stadjuhar who each scored 10 kills. Emily Keener scored a whopping 36 assists and 12 digs against Hazleton. Alexis Albrecht made a statement on defense with 28 digs and 5 service aces
The Lady Lions are playing hot as they head into the latter half of the season. With Saturday's two victories, the women's volleyball team improves to 10-6 overall record for the regular season.
Beaver will return to Penn State Fayette for day two of the PSUAC Crossover Weekend on Sunday, Sept. 30 for back-to-back matches. The ladies will play Penn State Lehigh Valley in their first match followed by a matchup against Penn State Brandywine. Game time is set at 10 a.m.
