Beaver - 2, BC3 - 3
Butler, PA -- Beaver loses tight game with Butler Community College.
Beaver, looking for their 6th consecutive win, traveled to Butler County Community College tonight.
In the first set, Beaver was sluggish and tentative on offense and did not serve will in the set, resulting in a five point loss, 20-25. But they quickly turned things around in the second and third sets.
In the second set both Brooke Tomasko and Imani Hargrove played agressively on offense combining for 66% of the teams kills in the set as the Lady Lions won convincingly, 25-17. The team followed suit in the third set, this time rallying behind Jenna Petrucci who had 5 of her 11 kills on the night in this set, winning 25-16.
In the fourth set the Pioneers of BC3 made changes to their offense allowing them to stay point for point with Beaver through the first 9 points. As the set continued, Beaver lost confidence in their net pressence and struggled to score, like they had in the first set. They fell by a set score of 22-25.
In the fifth and final set, Beaver recieved and gave up a quick two points, but then they found a serving rhythm and scored a quick 6 points to take the 6-2 lead and would be the first to 8 at the crucial court switch. But that change of sides proved lethal for Beaver as BC3 took advantage of the stoppage in play and rallied back into the set to tie the score at 13. After a pair of errors from Beaver, the Lady Lions fell by a final score of 15-13.
Despite the loss, the team proved to themselves that they can swing momentum and come back from a deficit, skills necessary as they push into the heart of their season in October. Leading the offense was Tomasko with 13 kills. She was followed by Petrucci with 11 and Hargrove with 8. Ryanne "Roxy" Kie did a nice job distrubuting the ball, tallying 30 assists and from the service line, Alexis Albrecht had a stellar night, serving 6 aces.
The Lady Lions drop to 6-4 overall as they head into a crucial weekend of play as they travel to Penn State Brandywine and Penn State York to face four PSUAC opponments in two days.
