Beaver Falls to Carlow in First Road Game of the Season
Beaver - 0, Carlow - 3
Pittsburgh, PA -- Beaver falls to Carlow by a match score of 3-0.
In their first road game of the season, Beaver traveled to Carlow Univeristy. In what they knew would be a very tough match, they came out looking solid in the first set led by senior, Jenna Petrucci who tallied a couple of kills to get the offense settled in. The team struggled on serve recieve, but managed to edge themselves back into the set after finding themselves down early. But their push was not enough as they fell in the first set 25-16.
In the second set the ladies fell behind early (9-12) but rallied to tie the game at 12-12. Despite gaining momentum, a series of poor passed led to them falling behind 16-12, but they didn't falter in their game plan and kept testing the Celtics and eventually evened the score for the second time in the set (19-19) and then pushed ahead seeming to have their eye on a second set victory, but yet again the aggresive serving of Carlow was too much for the Lady Lions as they fell in the second set 25-20.
In the third and final set, behind the block of Imani Hargrove, the ladies looked to fight their way back into the match but fell behind early and couldn't manage to make runs like they had in the first two sets. They fell by a set score of 25-12.
Despite the 3-0 loss, they were led offensively by Imani Hargrove with 5 kills. She also tallied a team leading 5 solo blocks. Senior Jenna Petrucci and junior, Brooke Tomasko were the offensive work horses with 17 attacks each, combining for 5 kills on the night.
The ladies return to action on Friday afternoon as they host their second tournament of the season playing WCCC in the first game at 4:00 p.m.
