Monaca, PA -- The Penn State Beaver women's volleyball team took on Penn State Fayette on Tuesday night for what looked to be a good matchup between two talented teams going into this one. The Beaver women come into this game looking to improve on their 2-0 conference record early in the season. However, with their inconsistent play as of late, it is hard to tell just what team will be showing up to play in this one today.
The game started off with both teams looking to battle for the win in this one, and Beaver looked really good early on in the first set. After a close first half of the set the Beaver girls looked to slow up a little as Fayette started really attacking Beaver, getting some good kills in to go up by a decent margain. Fayette kept their foot on the gas for the rest of the set as they cruised to win this one 13-25.
The second set started off with Fayette carrying their momentum from the last set straight into the second. With a lot of good, hard hit kills, Fayette continued to dominate what looked to be a struggling Beaver team as they went on to win this set 25-13. With a lot of poorly hit balls and other mistakes on Beaver's part, they didn't look very good at all for a large portion of the game.
The third set didn't look to promising for Beaver as they started to go down early and all hoped seemed to be lost. However, just when you would think Fayette had the match in the bag Beaver started stepping up in a big way. They began to play better than they had in the begining of the game and after a few good serves and a lot of overall good play they almost took the lead for the first time in this one. But as the set went on, Fayette's lead proved to be too much the Beaver girls as they fell in this set 18-25, losing the match 3-0.
Beaver took home their first in-conference loss today as they fell to Penn State Fayette in a definitive loss. Beaver's team looked very inconsistent in this matchup as they looked like a top teir team in the end, while playing most of the second set looking like a team playing scared. After this loss Beaver falls to a 6-7 overall record with a 2-1 conference record. Bridgette Woodford, who had 15 kills and 4 digs, and Brooke Tomasko, who really came alive in the third set tallying two aces and three kills, were crucial parts of Beaver's attempts to keep the sets close in this match. Beaver will return to action on Saturday, September 24 at Penn State Greater Allegheny. Game time is set for 2 pm.
