Penn State Beaver's Lady Lions faced off on the road again Saturday afternoon, defeating Penn State Schuylkill 77-67 in a conference matchup.
In the first quarter, Schuylkill made it onto the scoreboard with 2 free throws, but sophomore Tara McFadden made a jump shot that quickly tied the game up. After a 3-point jump shot by sophomore Cheyenne Lopez, Beaver created a lead which they would maintain for most of the game. Halfway through the quarter, Beaver led by 8, but Schuylkill was quickly able to move up, giving Beaver a 1 point lead. With a 3-pointer by freshman Kayla Cambell, Beaver ended the first quarter in the lead at 17-14.
In the second quarter, it was Schuylkill who started out strong. Thanks to a 3-pointer, Schuylkill was soon in the lead by 2 points, but Lopez was able to make a jump shot, tying the game at 19. Another jump shot by Lopez brought Beaver up by 2 points, and jump shots by freshmen Jakhira Legoskey and Tatyana Rodriguez brought Beaver up to a 36-33 lead at the end of the second.
The third quarter kept Beaver in the lead, as senior Roxy Kie made several free throws that helped to keep Beaver ahead. Near the end of the quarter, Schuylkill began to maintain possession of the ball, as Beaver struggled to maintain their lead. The quarter ended with a tie of 54-54.
In the fourth quarter, however, Beaver maintained their focus and were able to stay ahead of their opponent. Jump shots by Jackson and Kie brought Beaver quickly ahead of their opponent, and after a 3-pointer by Kie, Beaver's lead was solidified for the rest of the game. Free throws by freshman Diamond Thomas brought the team up even more, as their focus helped to bring them a 77-67 win.
Beaver is now 3-5 in their season and 3-0 in the PSUAC conference. They will head back on the road Tuesday when they play Penn State Du Bois in another conference matchup.
