The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions matched off at home today against Penn State Greater Allegheny in their first conference match of the season, sweeping them 94-37.
The first quarter started with Beaver maintaining a quick possession of the ball. Senior Brittany Jackson made the first shots of the night with a layup, followed by a free throw. The team's quick lead continued to build as they continued to make use of their ball possession. The first quarter ended with Beaver leading 25-17. In the second quarter, Beaver continued to gain possession of the ball, as the team equally distributed possession of the ball amongst its teammates. Freshmen Jakhira Legoskey and Kayla Cambell both made several big shots, helping to bring Beaver to a 54-24 lead at the end of the quarter.
As the third quarter began, Greater Allegheny was able to make a couple of baskets, but they could not make their way towards Beaver's significant lead. The fourth quarter showed the determined Lady Lions continuing their dominance, as Greater Allegheny began to realize this match would not be theirs. Layups by Legoskey and freshman Libby Thomas helped to keep Beaver even further ahead.
Beaver would go on to win the game 94-37, marking their first win of the season, as well as their first conference win. The team will travel to Penn State Hazelton on Friday in their second conference match of the season.
