Lady Lions Fall in Season Opener
Monaca, PA -- Lady Lions Fall to Villa Maria in Season Opener

The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions opened their season at home, hosting the Villa Maria Vikings. Beaver opened their season falling short of a win, as Villa Maria defeated them 80-68.
As the first quarter started, Villa Maria gained an early lead. Beaver struggled to get ahead of that lead despite an early tie in the first quarter. Beaver attempted to gain possession of the ball, but struggled against Villa Maria's defense. Beaver was down 21-15 at the start of the second quarter but began to gain possession of the ball, keeping Villa Maria from several scoring opportunities. Sophomore Tara McFadden made 2 free throws, helping to move the team up the board.
As the third quarter started, Beaver was down 42-31. The team used their defensive skills to keep the ball from Villa Maria, but their attempts to move past them on the scoreboard did not come to fruition. Senior Roxy Kie and freshman Kayla Cambell both made 3-point jump shots, keeping the team's momentum going. As the fourth quarter started, Villa Maria continued to move past the struggling Beaver defense. Despite a few 3-point jump shots and free throws, Beaver fell to Villa Maria 80-68.
The team will go on the road next Tuesday for their first away game of the season, against Davis & Elkins.
