Beaver Softball Finishes as Runner-Up in the PSUAC Championship
Beaver falls to Brandywine, 8-0.
Drifton, PA -- Beaver falls to Brandywine, 8-0, finishing the PSUAC Tournament in second place.
Fresh off of a win over Hazleton to get into the championship, Beaver looked to ride their momentum to victory over Brandywine for the first time this season.
Things started off slow for Beaver, generating just one hit in the first inning. Sarah Foose (New Bloomfield, PA / West Perry), who was on the mound for Beaver, struggled with the heavy hitters of Brandywine, giving up three runs in the bottom of the innning. In the second inning Beavers' struggles continued as they gave up another two runs to Brandywine.
After the third inning, Brandywine held a comfortable 8-0 lead as Beaver continued to struggle on the offensive side. Despite holding Brandywine scorless in the fourth, the Lady Lions couldn't generate the offense to overcome their hard hitting opponent in the top of the fifth.
Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) and Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA / Burgettstown) were they only two players to get a hit in the game.
The loss landed Beaver as the runner-up in the tournament, quite the accomplishment after starting their season 0-14 and having a very young roster that featured 11 first year players. Beaver continues their season next week at the USCAA National Tournament as they prepare for the #9 seed, Cleary University on May 16th at 12:00 p.m.
