Beaver Downs Mont Alto in PSUAC Tournament
Lady Lions win, 7-5.
Drifton, PA -- Beaver downs Mont Alto in the PSUAC Tournament by a final score of 7-5.
After going 1-1 in day one of action, the Lady Lions looked to win their way into the final four. After falling behind early, 3-0, after two and a half innings, Beaver put up an impressive five runs in the bottom of the second inning. It was the bat of Jenna Petrucci (New Castle, PA / Shenango) that got things started as she hit a lead off single to right center field. After a walk to put two runners on, Sarah Foose (New Bloomfield, PA / West Perry) singled to score both, cutting the Beaver deficit to 3 runs. The Lady Lions kept the hits coming after conceeding their first out as the next three batters (Dina Cable, Brittany Garza, Rachael Charlier) would all single resulting in two more runs as Charlier and Garza both earned RBI's. Capping off the scoring in the inning was Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) who hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the fifth run for Beaver, giving them a 5-3 lead after two innings.
Beaver expanded their lead to 7-3 in the next inning on an RBI double from Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA / Ellwood) and a run walked in, scoring Brittany Zahn (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton).
Mont Alto looked to make a come back, scoring a run in both the fifth and sixth innings, but it was not enough to overcome the pitching of Jackson who gave up just three earned runs in the game as Beaver took the win by a final score of 7-5.
Leading the offense was Foose who went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's. Their win advances them into the next round where they will face Schuylkill for the second time this weekend at 7:30 p.m.
