Beaver wins big over Schuylkill in PSUAC Tournament 1st Round
Beaver defeats Schuylkill, 11-5.
Drifton, PA -- Beaver cruises past Schuylkill in the First Round of the PSUAC Tournament.
After a stalemate in the first inning, Schuylkill got on the board first as Beaver gave up a 2-run home run. In their at bat, the Lady Lions went on a two out rally to tie the game as Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) singled scoring Dina Cable (Mannington, NJ / Salem County Vo Tech) who was hit by a pitch in her at bat and Sarah Foose (New Bloomfield, PA / West Perry) who was walked to open the inning.
In the top of the third inning, Schuylkill answered with their second 2-run home run regaining the lead, 4-2, but Foose who walked again, was able to advance to second on a wild pitch with Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA / Ellwood) at the plate. Borders singled to advance Foose, who scored on a throwing error by the pitcher, to make the Beaver deficit just one run (3-2). Beaver would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Brenna Cepull (Monaca, PA / Central Valley).
With the game slated at 4-4, the Beaver bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, the next three batters were either walked or hit by pitch to load the bases. Cable drew the walk to score the first run in the inning before Beaver was charged with their second out. Again, rallying on two, Borders was able to score on a wild pitch, followed by a Jackson 2-RBI double to give Beaver a comfortable 8-4 lead as the inning came to a close. Beaver continued to add to their lead in the sixth inning with Brittany Zahn (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) singling to left for an RBI followed by Emily Detrich (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley) who singled to right for another pair of RBI's.
Beaver went on to win the game by a final score of 11-5, to advance into the second round of the tournament. Leading the way was Jackson who went 3 for 5 with 4 RBI's while throwing the complete game and striking out five of the 33 batters faced.
