Myrtle Beach, SC - The Lady Lions struggled early in the day in a loss to Wesley College in the Fast Pitch Dreams Tournament.
Beaver took an early lead in the game when Nicole Bowersox (Penn Valley/Penns Valley, PA) singled in the top of the first inning to get things started. She was followed by Lauren Pier (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) who singled and then stole second to put two runners in scoring position. With 1 out, senior Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood City/Ellwood City, PA) doubled scoring both Bowersox and Pier. Wesley quickly answered scoring 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. In the 4th inning the Lady Lions literally collapsed committing 6 errors and giving up 9 unearned runs. Beaver was not able to recover and the game was called in the 5th inning following the 8 run mercy rule.
Taking the loss on the mound was junior Korey Freyermuth (Perry Traditional/Pittsburgh, PA) who went 4 innings giving up 11 hits and 7 earned runs. Offensively, seniors Scialdone and Jamie Karpinski (Quigley Catholic/Beaver, PA) lead the team each hitting doubles in the game.
Beaver will play again at 2:00pm facing Sauk Valley.
