Pittsburgh, PA- After countless games rained out, the Lady Lions finally had their chance to play when they traveled to the home of the Lady Redhawks of La Roche College. In game one junior Jen Hain (Northgate/Pittsburgh, PA) would start Beaver off by getting on base with a beautiful bunt up the 3rd base line. Junior Alonna Verrico (Rochester/Rochester, PA) would bring Hain home on a single over the short-stops head. Verrico would then score off of a single by freshman Lindsay Scialdone (Ellwood City/Ellwood City, PA).
Beaver struck again in the top of the 2nd after holding the Lady Redhawks scoreless in the bottom of the first, when freshman Katie Landis (Rochester/Rochester, PA) would score on a passed ball. Beaver was well focused on defense making game changing plays to hold the Lady Redhawks scoreless the entire game. Beaver earned the win by a final of 3-0. Sophomore Kayla Chambers (South Side/Hookstown, PA) pitching seven scoreless innings, giving up six hits and striking out four.
Game two, Beaver started off with a sacrifice RBI from Verrico, scoring Hain. La Roche answered back in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own to go ahead. Both teams remained scoreless in the 2nd inning. Beaver brought the bats out again in the top of the 3rd answering back to La Roche with two more runs of their own, going ahead of the Lady Redhawks 3-2.
However, La Roche would rally in the bottom of the 3rd and the bottom of the the fourth scoring 3 runs each inning and then adding on one more in the bottom of the 5th to place themselves ahead by a score of 9-3. Not giving up, Beaver was not letting La Roche walk away from this game with an easy win. Beaver rallied against the Lady Redhawks in the top of the 6th bringing in 5 runs. Beaver's defense came through once again holding the Lady Redhawks to no runs in the bottom of the sixth, and giving them one last chance at bat in the top of the 7th. However, Beaver would come up short and with the loss by a final of 9-8.
The Lady Lions (5-15, 0-0) will now swing into PSUAC conference play when they host the Lady Lions of Penn State Scranton, on Saturday, April 4th. Game time is set to begin at 2p.m. weather permitting.
