University Park, Pa. -- The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team headed to Penn State's main campus to face off against No.1 seed Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday for the PSUAC Championship Game. Beaver finished second in the conference and looked to get the job done and bring home to the season title.
In the first period, the teams were evenly matched and the game remained scoreless for 20 minutes. Then, freshman Danylo Yakymov scored the first goal on an assist by senior Shelton Hilliard to get Beaver on the board 30 seconds later. As the game went on, neither team had success in scoring for about five minutes until Brandywine launched a goal right into Beaver's net just shy of the 26th minute to tie the game (1-1). In the 36th, Brandywine landed on the board again with a second goal and taking the lead nine minutes before closing the first half.
In the second half, the teams kept each other from scoring for the first 11 minutes until Brandywine scored another goal to take a two-goal lead at the 56th minute. Beaver tried to spark a comeback as the second period went on, but Brandywine had a clear advantage and took over the game, scoring another three goals in the last 18 minutes of the game and ending Beaver's post-season with a 1-5 loss.
While the PSUAC Championship Game didn't result in the title for Beaver, the men played a great season, finishing second in the conference with a final overall record of 11-5 for the regular season and 8-1 in the conference.
