Beaver pulls out close win against Greater Allegheny

New Brighton, Pa. -- The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team competed against conference rival Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday, in the team's final home game of the regular season. The men are playing hot and are on a six-game winning streak including wins in their last three conference matches. Beaver currently sits at a 7-1 conference record and look to keep the hot-streak alive against Allegheny tonight.
In the first period, the teams played tough against each other, not allowing either team to land on the board for the first 22 minutes of the game. At the 23rd minute, Darrion Gilmore kicked a left pass to Danylo Yakymov, who launched the ball right past Allegheny's goaltender at the 12-yard line (1-0). As the first period, the game remained close as both teams traded possesion with the ball wihtout scoring. Beaver finished the first half with a 1-0 lead. As the second began, both teams made their way to scoring terrirorty but were unable to connect with the net. Then at the 57th minute, Allegheny drove the ball down to Beaver's net and socred on the play to tie the game (1-1). As the clock wound down to the 65th minute, Yakymov charged in to the back third and scored a late goal for Beaver. Five minute later, the game got cut short due to lack of sunlight, and Beaver triumphed 2-1, extending the team's hot-streak to seven straight wins to end the regular season. Yakymov led the offense in the close conference match, scoring both of Beaver's two goals.
Wrapping up the regular season, Beaver finishes with a 10-4 overall record and locks-down the second place spot with an 8-1 record in the PSUAC standings. Beaver peformed very well this season and are now headed to the PSUAC Semi-Finals on Saturday, Oct. 27. Game time is TBA.
