Beaver rolls past York, 3-0

York, Pa. -- The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team were back on the road on Sunday to face off against Penn State York in the team's third conference match of the week. The team has caught fire and is on a five-game winning streak including a 10-1 blowout yesterday afternoon against Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Beaver is in second place in the PSUAC conference standings with a 6-1 record and aims to extend its winning streak against in the team's last two matches of the regular season.
In the first period, the teams looked evenly matched as both teams exchanged possession of the ball back and forth for almost the entire half. Beaver found a few opportunities to score but was unable to connect with York's net before the first period wrapped with the score at 0-0.
Going into the second period, the first 15 minutes of the second played out the first half as both teams were neck to neck, not allowing the other to get on the board. Then at the 65th minute, Williams Cruz launched a long shot at York's net and scored a goal for Beaver (1-0). The tides had shifted in Beaver's favor and at the 71st minute, freshman Devin DiLuca kicked a long shot right past York's goalie, his second goal of the season, to give Beaver a two-goal lead with only 19 minutes left in the game. Frustrated from being down by two goals as time on the game clock was running out, York began playing careless and rough for a brief stint and landed a yellow card against at the 79th minute. But Beaver stayed focused and drove the ball down to York's net with less than seven minutes to go. Less than a minute later, Jacob Kosuda found Francesco Ferrara and threw the ball in for Ferrara to score a late third goal for Beaver. The men stayed focused on defense and ran the clock out, winning the game 3-0.
Now on a six-game winning streak, Beaver sits at a 7-1 conference record in the PSUAC standings and holds down second place. Beaver will be back for more conference play against rival Penn State Allegheny this Saturday, Oct. 20 for the team's final game of the regular season. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
