Beaver forge past Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 10-1

Dallas, Pa. – The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team hit the road Saturday, to face Penn State Wilkes-Barre for the team's second of three back-to-back conference matches this week. Beaver has a 5-1 record in the PSUAC standings and holds the second place spot for the second week after winning some critical conference games down the home-stretch of the regular season. Beaver is on a four-game winning streak and looks to tack on another conference win against Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
In the first period, the teams played each other tough and the game remained scoreless for a while. Then at the 21st minute, Beaver's Danylo Yakymov scored a goal on an assist by Williams Cruz (1 – 0). The minutes later, Darrion Gilmore followed up Yakymov and scored a second goal (2 – 0). In the next three minutes, Shelton Hilliard hammered a ball into Wilkes-Barre's net on an assist by John Kazmierczyk, putting Beaver up 3 – 0 at the 26th minute. Wilkes-Barre finally got on the board after a goal at the 31st minute of the first half, making the score 3-1. Yakymov got the ball back and scored his second goal of the day to give Beaver a three-goal lead (4-1). Then, Marvellous Onajobi followed Yakymov a minute later and scored another goal for Beaver on an assist by Alioune Dia (5 – 1). Beaver ended the first half up by four goals.
Momentum stayed with Beaver in the second half as Cruz scored Beaver's sixth goal on an assist by Hilliard (6 – 1) less than a minute in. Beaver's offense was hot and Gilmore found his opportunity, on an assist by Hilliard to score his second goal of the game. Beaver was now up 7 – 1 only three minutes into the second. The game remained scoreless for the next 16 minutes, but Beaver had the advantage over Wilkes-Barre. Then, forward Francesco Ferrara scored his first goal of the season on an assist by Marvellous Onajobi, putting Beaver up 8-1. Wilkes-Barre didn't have an answer to Beaver's fiery offense, and Ashish Subba took his opportunity to scored back-to-back goals in the next two minutes. Scoring five unanswered goals in the second period, Beaver went on to win the game 10-1.
With today's win, Beaver improves to a 6-1 conference record in the PSUAC standings and hold down second place. Beaver will play away again tomorrow, Oct. 14, where the team will face conference rival, Penn State York. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
