Rochester, PA -- The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team took on Penn State Hazelton at home on Saturday, September 17. Beaver has looked very good in conference play so far this year as they have won their first three conference matches to start the season. They come into this one looking to continue their good play and win their third straight game.
The first half started off with a lot of promise for both sides. Both teams look very good as play kicked off and, while Beaver had more chances than Hazelton, neither team really had a hold on the game for the first few minutes. In the tenth minute of play Beaver's Julius Illiano managed to get a penalty kick and didn't let it go to waste as he sank it, putting Beaver up 1-0 early on. This score would hold up until the end of the first half, even though it was easy to tell that Beaver now had the upperhand.
The second half started out with Beaver dominanting play, and in the 58th minute Beaver's Dom DeMino scored putting them up 2-0. As play went on Hazelton looked to get slower and slower as Beaver was able to control all of the momentum for a while. If it wasn't for Hazelton's great play in goal this game may have been a blowout as Beaver had a number of great chances stopped. Beaver ended up slipping late, letting up a goal on a beautful shot in the 81st minute, but that didn't matter as Beaver was able to hold on for the 2-1 win.
Beaver dominanted on offense in this impressive looking win over Penn State Hazelton. Although the stats don't quite reflect how the game went, Beaver had complete control of this one early on in this game and didn't ever let up. Thanks to the play of Julius Illiano, who had two shots on goal and a goal, and Dom DeMino, who also tallied two shots on goal and a goal, Beaver came away with the win in this one. The Beaver men now sit at 3-2 overall with a three game win streak in conference, giving them an in conference record of 3-0. They will take the field next on Wednesday, September 21 at Westmoreland County Community College, with a start time set for 5 pm.
