Lions earn road win against Saint Vincent College, 71-61

LATROBE, Pa.––The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team defeated Saint Vincent College 76-61 during Monday night's road bout.
Senior guard John Foster (Austin/Del Valle) led the way with 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block, followed by sophomore forward/center Jeremy Redwine (Merced), who scored 22 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal. Junior guard Sonny Martinez (Austin) contributed 12 points, two assists, two steals and one rebound in the game.
1st half: The Lions were fired up in the opening minutes of the game as they made an 11-0 run with the final 3 points coming from a 3-point jumper by senior guard Kevin Louis-Charles (Lawrenceville/ Central Gwinnett). Saint Vincent started to come back around the 8-minute mark, and the Lions led 35-27 at halftime.
2nd half: At 13:38, Redwine found Martinez, who drained a 3-pointer to give the Lions their largest lead of 16 points against Saint Vincent (47-31). While Saint Vincent cut Beaver's lead to only 7 points at 8:21, Foster immediately responded with a clutch shot from behind the arc to boost the Lion's lead back to 10 (56-46). With only 42 seconds left in the game, freshman guard Alexander Avery (Stafford/Brooke Point) made a late layup, which helped Beaver pull ahead by 12 and go on to win by a final score of 71-61.
Box Score Highlights: Beaver shot 51 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free-throw line.
After tonight's win, the Lions improve to a 3-2 record overall.
The Lions will be back at home on Dec. 3, for a PSUAC conference Penn State Fayette. The game is slated for 8 p.m.
