Beaver falls to Chatham in first game of the season
PITTSBURGH, Pa. — In the first game of the 2019-2020 season, the Penn State Beaver men's basketball team lost to Chatham University in Tuesday's road game, 92-73.
Senior guard John Foster (Austin/Del Valle) led the team in scoring, finishing with a double-double with 29 points, 11 rebounds and four steals, followed by sophomore forward/center Jeremy Redwine (Merced), who recorded 25 points, four boards, two assists and one block.
1st half: Beaver fell slightly behind in the opening minutes of the period as Chatham made 7-0 run only three minutes in. At 15:55, Foster hit two shots from behind the charity stripe to cut the deficit to 4 points at 12-7. But down the stretch with the score at 20-14, Chatham took a 10-0 run to put distance between Beaver with a 16-point lead (30-14). Beaver couldn't close the gap before the clock ran out on the first and trailed by 14 points at halftime (46-32).
2nd half: While the Lions did better with scoring in the second, they weren't able to slow down Chatham's offense and couldn't get over the first-half deficit. Beaver fell to Chatham, 92-73.
The Lions will travel to face off against PSUAC rival Penn State New Kensington in their next game on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The game is slated for 8 p.m.
