Beaver soars past CCAC Boyce, 75-44
Monaca, Pa. – The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team defeated the Community College of Allegheny County Boyce in the team's home opener on Wednesday night.
Beaver came out aggressive to start the game, with freshman Jeremy Redmine scoring layup, on an assist by freshman Sonny Martinez right out of the gate, which sparked Beaver's offense to go on a big run. In the next few minutes, some turnovers on CCAC Boyce's part paired with a steal by sophomore Andrew Brady prompted Beaver to take an early 13-0 lead. At the 14-minute mark off the steal, freshman Keon Butler pushed the ball down the court and made a layup, increasing Beaver's score to 15-2, causing CCAC Boyce to take a 30-second time-out. As the first proceeded, the Beaver men controlled the tempo and displayed fluid ball handling and passing, which allowed them to take over the game early. Beaver outscored CCAC Boyce 45-18 before halftime.
The second half faired more competitive between the two teams, with Beaver only outscoring CCAC Boyce by 4 points. In addition to the early deficit CCAC allotted, Beaver stayed aggressive and played tough until the final minutes of the game and nabbed the first home victory of the season with a final score of 75-44.
