Lions Fall Short of National Championship Goal
Andrews University defeats Beaver 73-59 in the USCAA National Championship
Uniontown, PA- The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team ended their season Saturday night, falling one game short of their goal of being National Champs. Andrews University ended the dream, defeating Beaver 73-59, on their way of winning their third title in four years.
Beaver came out and took and early 8-5 lead, but this would be the only lead the Lions held. Andrews build a lead of 16 in the first half, but Beaver battled to cut it to 37-26 at the break. In the second half, Beaver continued to try to claw its way back into the game, but at every turn, Andrews turned it up as well, building leads of 16, 17, and 16. Beaver gave one final push, cutting it to ten with a little of a minute to play, but could not get any closer.
Sophomore Rob Agurs (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh, PA) led all scorers with 21 points. Senior Chris Weathers (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) added 20. Andrews controlled the boards, out rebounding Beaver 49-30.
Beaver finishes the season with a 22-6 record, and USCAA National runner's up. Agurs and Senior guard Nick Miller were named to the All-Tournament team.
