Lions Defeat PS DuBois, Advance to PSUAC Championship
On Monday, Feb. 23 the Penn State Beaver men's basketball team defeated Penn State DuBois, 80-69, in the first round of the PSUAC Final Four at the Bryce Jordan Center, Penn State University Park.
DuBois led by 8 points by the 10-minute mark of the first half as Beaver attempted to chip away at the lead. Beaver's defensive pressure and timely shooting allowed them to gain a 32-29 lead before junior Tim Kubis (Hopewell High School, Aliquippa, PA) hit a 3-point field goal at the buzzer to extend Beaver's lead to 35-29 at the half.
In the second half, Beaver built on their 6-point lead, leading by as many as 20 points at three different times. DuBois mounted a rally to put pressure on Beaver, but Beaver took the win.
Junior Zac Fetchin (Hopewell High School, Aliquippa, PA) recorded another double-double, grabbed 10 rebounds, and scored 23 points. Sophomore Chancelor Humphrey (Hopewell High School, Aliquippa, PA), freshman Tony Houghton (Perry Traditional Academy, Pittsburgh, PA), and Matt Franitti (Blackhawk High School, Beaver Falls, PA) scored 16, 14, and 10 points, respectively.
On Tuesday, Feb. 24 Beaver will take on Penn State Hazleton for the PSUAC Championship at 12:30 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.
