Beaver Wins Season Opener, Fetchin Scores 1,000th Career Point

On Monday, Nov. 17 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions men's basketball team hosted and defeated the Barons from Franciscan University of Steubenville, 91-74, in the Lions' season and home opener while junior Zach Fetchin (Hopewell, PA) scored his 1,000th career point.
The Barons had a strong start with an 8-0 run against the Lions, but Beaver stepped up and scored their first bucket off a jumper from sophomore Chancelor Humphrey (Hopewell, PA).
Franciscan took a 15-point lead, but Beaver came back trailing by just 1 point, with three key 1-pointers from sophomore Billy Stoughton (Slippery Rock, PA) and freshman Cory Diamond (Beaver, PA).
At the beginning of the second half, the Lions came on strong with key plays by freshman Tony "Showtime" Houghton (Pittsburgh, PA). At the 3-minute mark in the second half, Fetchin scored his 1,000th career point on a short jumper. Junior Tim Kubis (Hopewell, PA) played well and finished the game with a career and game high of 26 points.
Fetchin led the Lions with 9 total rebounds and 17 points.
On Friday, Nov. 21 Beaver will travel to La Roche College to take on the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets in the C.R.O.N.S. Tournament. Game times will be announced.
