Beaver Baseball Struggles Against Brandywine
Brandywine - 6, Beaver - 3
Dubois, PA -- After an unlikely twist of events, Beaver found themseleves advancing to the second round of the PSUAC playoffs in Dubois.
Taking on Brandywine in their opening game of the double-elimination tournament, they got the bats started early, scoring two in the top of the first on a Justyn Francona triple. With the momentum on their side, they were able to keep Brandywine off of the board until the bottom of the third inning. With the game tied 2-2 going into the fourth, Beaver was held scoreless while Brandywine added another three runs to take the lead from Beaver.
Trailing 5-2, a Scott Hughes double in the top of the sixth looked to get things back on track for Beaver as he would eventually score to bring Beaver back within two runs of the lead. However, the late surge wasn't enough as Brandywine added their sixth run of the game in the bottom of the inning, which would be the eventual final run of the game as Beaver fell by a final score of 6-3.
Leading the offense was Francona with 2 RBI's while two other Lions also contributed hits in the game. On the mound was Daniel Vanderslice who threw the complete game facing 32 batters and striking out 8 to give him his 100th career strikeout.
Beaver plays again at 3:30 p.m. against Penn State Wilkes-Barre, a must win game to stay alive in the tournament.
