Monaca, PA -- Beaver Celebrates Senior Day Against Du Bois
By: Chris Rotondo
Beaver returned home Sunday afternoon to once again face off against Penn State Du Bois in a Senior Day double header. The day was especially meaningful as Ty Cole returned following a season ending injury.
Game 1 was difficult for Beaver, as they struggled to make home runs. Du Bois started off by making 2 runs each in the first and second innings. Shelton Hilliard came close to a home run in the first, but did not have a chance to run home with Du Bois made an additional run in the third and fifth, respectfully. The sixth inning showed Du Bois making an additional 5 runs, with Beaver falling 11-0.
Game 2 also started with Du Bois making an early lead, making a run each in the first 2 innings. At the top of the fifth, Du Bois made 3 runs, but in the bottom of the fifth, Beaver managed to make 2 runs. Scott Hughes doubled to left field, gaining an RBI as Dan Vanderslice ran home. Then, Justyn Francona singled with an RBI, advancing to second as Hughes ran home.
The sixth went scoreless, but Du Bois made 6 runs in the seventh. Beaver made 2 runs in the seventh, as Zack Cossette singled to center field with an RBI. Francona soon hit out to left field with a SAC fly, gaining an RBI as Eric Halicek made a run. Despite the momentum, the game ended after 7 innings with Beaver falling 12-4.
The team is now 7-15 overall and 6-8 in their conference games. They will conclude their 2018 regular season Monday afternoon, traveling to Penn State Fayette for a PSUAC division game.
