Beaver picks up first win of the season

Vero Beach, FL -- Beaver wins their spring break opener against NAIA, Trinity International.
Beaver got on the board right away this morning as they opened their spring season in historic Holman Stadium at Historic Dodgertown. A triple from Ty Cole (Carmichaels, PA / Carmichaels) set the stage for Nick Casasanta (Moon Twp, PA / Moon) who singled to score the Lions their first run of the game. Beaver maintained their momentum in the second inning as senior, Jordan Price (Conway, PA / Freedom) doubled and would eventually score on a Scott Hughes (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) RBI single.
With a 2-0 lead, the Lions contintinued to build on their lead adding an additional three runs in the bottom of the third as Cole, Casasanta and Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA / Riverside) all scored.
Beaver held Trinity International scoreless through five innings, giving up a lone run in the top of the sixth inning. Despite giving up that run, the Lions played a very clean game and went on to win in the top of the 7th by a final score of 5-1.
Leading the Lions offensively were Cole who went 2 for 3 including a double and triple, Price who also went 2 for 3 with a double and Scott Hughes who was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's. Defensively, Justyn Francona (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) played stellar defense in center field making 2 diving catches and Casasanta threw all seven innings facing 25 batters, striking out four.
The Lions return to action tomomorrow at 1:00 p.m. when they play a double-header against Bethel College.
