Baseball Win Streak Continues
Beaver defeats Dubois, 9-0, to advance in the tournament
Dubois, PA -- Beaver takes down #1 seeded Dubois, 9-0, to advance into the semi-final game of the PSUAC Tournament.
Fresh off of a win last night, Beavers' bats were hot to open the game as Jake Debo (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning. The Lions opened up their lead in the top of the fourth inning as senior, Tyler Thellman (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) hit an RBI single to give Beaver a 2-0 lead. With a new pitcher on the mound, the runners advanced on a wild pitch, scoring Matt Capo (Moon Township, PA / Moon). Beaver added two additional runs in the inning as both Stephen Antolic (Freedom, PA / Ambridge) and Nick Casasanta (Moon Twp, PA / Moon) hit back to back RBI singles to give Beaver a 5-0 lead through four and a half innings.
After a 1,2,3 bottom of the fourth, Beaver kept the hits coming in the top of the fifth as they added another four runs on 2 more RBI singles capped off by a 2 RBI double off of the bat of Antolic. With a comfortable lead, Beaver went on to close out the game by a final score of 9-1, claiming the victory and advancing them into the semi-finals.
Leading the offense was Antolic, who went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI's. Also contributing, with outstanding performances at the plate were Debo who went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's and Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA / Riverside) who went 2 for 3.
On the mound was senior, Matt Sweikowski (Zelienople, PA / Seneca Valley) who threw a complete game giving up just two hits and striking out 3 of the 23 batters faced.
Beaver returns to action tonight at 7:00 p.m. when they face Penn State Schuylkill at Showers Field in Dubois, PA.
