Baseball sweeps Penn State Hazleton to improve to 11-7 in conference play.
Beaver wins 15-4 and 10-4 to close out the weekend going 4-0
Beaver took a while to get it going in the first game. Hazleton jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings but that is all the runs they would scrape together for this game. Beaver would get three runs off a homerun by Junior Jake Debo in the top of the third inning to make it 4-3.
The fourth inning is when Beaver would take control of this game. They put up seven runs in the top of the fourth to make it a score of 10-3. This pretty much put the game out of reach but Beaver did not let up putting up five more runs in the top of the fifth. Debo had another three run shot to help power the offense.
Leading offensively for Beaver in game one of the double header was Jake Debo who went 2-4 with two three-run homeruns. Senior Tyler Thellman and Sophomore Matt Capo also had three hits. Matt Sweikowski threw five innings picking up the win with the ten run rule coming into effect after five.
In game two of the double header the offense did not show up for a while. Hazleton scored two runs each in the first two innings on a few fundamental errors by the Beaver defense. They found themselves in a 4-0 hole again, but answered with two runs in the bottom of the second. Matt capo would end up stranded on second after an error by the second baseman but scored Senior Derek Bozic who doubled and Junior Jordan Price who got hit by a pitch to make it 4-2 after two innings.
Beaver would score another run in the fourth inning after another double by Bozic who ended up scoring the only run that inning on a sacrifice fly by Capo. Beaver would be headed into the top of the seventh down one run but nobody panicked. Shawn Shaner lead off the inning with a walk to be the tying run. After an infield flyout, the Beaver bats went on a hit parade. Thellman added a single, Debo was walked bringing up Stephen Antolic with the bases loaded and one out. He would also single to tie the game at four. Junior Nick Casasanta would single home two runs to put Beaver in the lead 6-4, but the offense was not done yet. Bozic, Price, and Capo would all single following that to make the score 10-4 in an epic comeback rally.
Leading offensively for Beaver was Derek Bozic with two doubles and a single. He also scored three runs. Antolic would enter the game late providing the tying RBI single, and Casasanta would go 1-4 with the 2 RBI go ahead single to propel Beaver past Hazleton. Penn State Beaver returns to action to conclude the regular season on Tuesday at Penn State Dubois, at 6:00 and 8:30 p.m.
