Lions Split Doubleheader with Golden Tornadoes
Beaver Falls, PA - On Thursday, March 18 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team split a doubleheader with the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College (Beaver Falls, PA), winning the first game, 10-2, and losing the second, 12-4.
Senior Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School, Sewickley, PA) was the winning pitcher of the first game with 3 hits, no walks, and 10 strike-outs.
Beaver opened the scoring in the second inning when freshman Vincent Beatty (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) singled home freshman Cory Wagner (Center High School, Monaca, PA).
Wagner went 3-4 with 2 RBI's, and freshman Alex Filippi went 2-3. Freshman Mike Lacenere (Quaker Valley High School, Sewickley, PA) also had 2 hits.
Geneva scored 2 runs in the seventh inning.
In the second game, Beaver went up 1-0 in the top of the first and added 2 more in the second. However, Geneva scored in the bottom of the second for a 6-3 advantage and took the win.
In the loss, Beaver freshman Markus Allen (Union High School, New Castle, PA) batted 3-4, hit a homerun, and had 4 RBI's. Senior Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School, Sewickley, PA) also added 2 hits.
Beaver is 2-2 overall and will travel to Beaver Falls again to take on Geneva at 3:30 p.m., Friday, March 19.
