Beaver Gets Back into Playoff Hunt, take Two from Hazleton

Monaca, PA- The Lions of Penn State Beaver got back on the winning side of things, taking two off Penn State Hazleton..
In game one, Hazleton drew first blood, scoring one in the second inning. Beaver answered, scoring two in the second, three in third and four in the fifth to build a 9-1 lead. Hazleton scored another in the sixth before Beaver would score three in the sixth to end the game at 12-2. Junior Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, PA) pitched six strong inninges, giving up five hits, walking two and striking out four. Scherer led offensively as well, recording three hits and scoring three runs. Senior Brian Ringel (Sto-Rox/McKees Rocks, PA) had three hits as well. Junior Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley/Fair Oaks, PA) and Freshman Dan Sonsini (Aliquippa/Aliquippa, PA) both recorded two RBI's and Senior Jeff Trojan (Rochester/Rochester, PA) and Freshman Joe Placidi (Aliquippa/Aliquippa, PA) both led with three RBI's apiece.
In game two, it was all Beaver. The Lions opened up the game in the first, scoring nine times in the first frame. Beaver added three more runs to take the game in five innings by the score of 12-0. Sophomores Jake Gram (Louisville/Louisville, OH) and Jake Ellis (Seneca Valley/Cranberry, PA) combined to pitch a two hitter. Joe Scherer, Junior Ryan Raraigh (Riverside/Fombell, PA) and Junior Cody Moldovan (Ellwood/Ellwood City, PA) led with two hits a piece. Raraigh, Frederick, and Ellis all drove in two runs a piece while Junior Justin Parasida (Ambridge/Ambridge, PA) drove in three.
With the wins, Beaver now sits at 15-7 in the PSUAC and 21-15 overall. Beaver will return to action on Wednesday, April 22nd, when they host Penn State Greater Allegheny. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
