Baseball Sweeps Beaver in Home Opener

Frigid weekend temperatures were not going to stop Shenango's bats from coming alive as the Shenango baseball team took care of business against Penn State Beaver in the 2024 Home Opener. In front of an impressive, and cold, crowd at Neshannock High School, the Lions got going quickly when Stephen Tarnoci took the first pitch of the game deep over the left-center field wall for his first career Home Run. Shenango's offense would get cold over the next few innings, despite starter Nick Osborne staying hot on the mound, going six innings with six strikeouts and only giving up three hits. Innings #5 and #6 would see Shenango score seven additional runs before a 7th inning rally by Beaver fell short, ending the game 10-7. Jonathan Leedham went 3-for-3 in the game with four RBIs and a HR of his own.

Game two was all Shenango as the Lions jumped out to an 11-run lead in first inning that included a Troy Bachman Grand Slam. Kaleb Gorichky went 2-for-2 with a 3B, HR, and 5 RBIs. On the mound, starter Nate Evans shut down Beaver over four innings, giving up only one earned run while striking out six. Luke Atterholt joined the strikeout party, coming on in relief in the 5th inning and striking out three Beaver batters. The game ended on a 10-run mercy rule after the 5th inning.

The Shenango Lions get a well-deserved break after starting their fall campaign 4-1. They will head to Myrtle Beach for a nine-game trip starting on March 5th.
