Seawolves conclude season with consolation loss at national tournament

PETERSBURG, Va.—The #8-seeded Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team was defeated 66-52 by #2 Penn State University Beaver in a consolation game at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 12.

The Seawolves started ahead winning the first quarter 19-11, before being stymied to just four points in the second. Beaver put together its best offensive showing in the third pouring in 25 points, but despite a fourth quarter win, the Seawolves couldn't make up the difference in the final 10 minutes.

Junior co-captain Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine) logged 10 points to finish her SMCC career with 965, placing her third on the program's all-time list. Senior co-captain Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) pulled down 10 rebounds to finish her SMCC career with 652, ranking her third on the program's all-time list. The dominant center registered another eight blocks to lead all USCAA players with 5.0/g this season

Beaver's Emery Black finished the contest with 22 points and 14 rebounds; Makitah Logan totaled 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Seawolves conclude their season at 21-10 overall.
