Barbara Jean Bertges Named United State Collegiate Athletic Association Associate Director & Chief Operating Officer
Coach BJ Bertges departing Penn State Beaver for Associate Director position with the USCAA

Monaca, PA- BJ Bertges, current assistant athletic, intramural, and rec sports director and head Volleyball coach at Penn State Beaver has been hired at the USCAA as the Associate Director & Chief Operating Officer of the association. She will begin her new position on Monday, September 23rd, 2019. Her last day at the Beaver campus will be Friday, September 13th, 2019.
The Athletic, intramural, and rec sports have all grown since her hire date on January 3rd, 2012. As a coach, Bertges has coached 8 seasons, amassing a 102-98 record, qualifying for the PSUAC playoffs six times; finishing PSUAC runner's up in 2018. Bertges has coached 2 USCAA All-Americans, 20 PSUAC All conference players, and 38 PSUAC Academic All-Conference award winners. In the past three years, her teams' GPA has been over a 3.0. As an administrator, she has played a vital role in the creation and implementation of the marketing and social media initiatives of the department.
In her 8 years here at Beaver, Bertges grew participation numbers in the intramural program. She enhanced the offerings by varying the experience, tailoring to the student's interests.
Recreationally, BJ added programs such as Yoga and total body blast classes; as well as offered a personal trainer for students. She instituted the 150-mile club as well as other programs to get the campus community more involved with physical fitness.
Also, during her tenure, Bertges served on numerous committees. She was a member of the United way committee, Student-success committee, Stand for State, and campus marketing team. Within the PSUAC, she served as a sports committee chair SID at various PSUAC sports championships. With the USCAA, she served as USCAA softball National Tournament SID for six years and assisted at various other National tournaments over the years. She also served on various committees within the USCAA, most recently the USCAA Volleyball Coaches Poll.
The Penn State Beaver Athletic department and campus community will deeply miss Barbara Jean and wish her well on her new career.
