PSUAC All-Conference Recipients Announced
State College, PA -- The PSUAC announced their baseball and softball all-conference award winners as well as the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award winners this morning at the conference championship.
Penn State Beaver Baseball had three players named 1st Team All-Conference - West. The first is senior Ty Cole, who led the team in batting average (.489) and was second in the PSUAC prior to a season ending injury. Also being named 1st team were Matt Capo, who batted .330 this season and was a defensive staple in the outfield this season and Justyn Francona who was a vocal leader on the team, batting .256 but also seeing some time at both short and second after the injury to Cole as well as on the mound. On the mound he was 3-2 and was instrumental in this seasons success.
Penn State Beaver Softball also had three players named All-Conference. Earning 1st Team All-Conference and Pitcher of the Year was Vanessa Jackson who is currently batting .442 and is 19-6 in the circle with an ERA of 2.47. Also earning 1st Team is short stop, Kayla Campbell. A freshman, Kayla is batting .408 and has brought stability to the infield defensively. Rounding out the group, earning an honorable mention award is Jessica Hughes who is coming off of an ACL injury last season and is batting .413 with 3 home runs and is also 2-2 on the season from the circle.
Finally earning the John Fritz Sportsmanship award for baseball was senior, Daniel Vanderslice and for softball is junior, Brenna Cepull.
The John Fritz Sportsmanship Award is awarded to one student-athlete per team for each sport at each campus. This student-athlete demonstrates good sportsmanship in that she displays ethical, appropriate, polite and fair behavior while participating in athletic events and as a member of their team. They exemplify the Penn State Values of integrity, responsibility, excellence, respect, discovery and community.
